EDUCATION & EMPLOYMENT

Most Americans spend the years between the ages of 5 or 6 and 17 or 18 attending school. In fact, though the age requirements vary from state to state, elementary and secondary education in the United States are compulsary: that is, by law, we must attend. We then either continue our education, or enter the American workforce. At some point, most of us eventually go to work. And spend the next 30 years or so as productive members of society. There are exceptions, of course. Stay-at-home moms and dads. Welfare recipients. The disabled. The criminal element. The incarcerated. The institutionalized. For the most part, however, we are an educated society with a strong work ethic.
